After just about a year hiatus, this nomad is back on the road. I realize as I set out for the next six weeks, on an admittedly ambitious itinerary, that what may be typical for me is anything but normal.
My itinerary may make you tired, or likely concerned, just by reading it!
April 13 – Leave DC
April 14 - Arrive in Nairobi, Kenya
April 16 – Nairobi
April 17-20 – Mogadishu, Somalia
April 21 – Nairobi
April 22-24 – Hargeisa, Somaliland
April 25 – 3 – Kenya team with trip out to Dadaab (refugee camp on the Somali border) and Suba, on Lake Victoria
May 4 – Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
May 7-9 – Dollo Ado (refugee camps on the Somali border)
May 10 – Addis
May 11 - 21 – Zimbabwe (out to field for a night or two in Bindura and elsewhere)
May 22-24 – London
Despite the pace, my goal is to pace myself. Eat well, get in my exercise where I can, and most importantly lather in sunscreen and all the spf protective clothing I have. It is also rejuvenating for me to be back in Africa. There is just something about it. I have already met up with more people in a weekend in Nairobi than I would in DC. I even bumped into a former colleague in the Amsterdam airport. Small world.
The good news for friends, family, and readers is that I'll finally get back to writing consistently. I still have tons of photos and adventures from my trip to Africa last year that I never posted when life happened.
Cheers,
Miel
