Hunger & Food Shortages in Afghanistan

While I'm currently in Vietnam, I still wanted to address the issue of recent food shortages in Afghanistan. Apparently the shortages are making an already difficult life in Afghanistan even harder.

This picture of one of the fabulous vegetable stands in Kabul was taken back in the fall, so he's less likely to be smiling these days.

Bread is the life line of Afghanistan. Ask any Afghan the one food they couldn't live without, and it would most certainly be bread. You can see the bakery above for an idea of what they look like, seen all around the city.

The rise in prices had already begun while I was most recently in Kabul, but it seems that they are getting even worse. The price of flour and bread had double since I've been in Vietnam during the month of May. I can only imagine the impact this is having on families throughout Afghanistan.

If you are interested in a clip that shows Afghanistan, here is an excellent one about the issues that food shortages are causing.
